Δ7‐sterol C5‐desaturase‐like gene (SC5DL) are crucial enzymes for sterol metabolism. This study demonstrated that a plant‐derived horizontally transferred SC5DL gene plays a pivotal role in Bemisia tabaci cholesterol metabolism and reproductive biology, which offers a potential new approach for the effective management of whitefly populations in agricultural settings.
