The reaction to phenol of grains of indica and japonica rice varieties and their Fl hybrids was studied by way of the diallele cross of six typical indica and japonica varieties and the cross between them and the recombinant inbred lines (RIL) with different degree of indica and japonica composition. The results showed that the phenol reaction of rice grains was controlled by genes with staining dominant to non-staining.
