In summary, CNDs with tunable reducibility and emission have been synthesized with one-pot hydrothermal method. The red shift of emission was ascribed to the expansion of graphited core (sp2 domain) from b-CNDs to g-CNDs. And the discrepancy of reducibility was related to the tailoring of reductive surface groups. Controlled-synthesis of carbon nanodots (CNDs) with tunable properties has always been challenging. Here, novel CNDs (blue-emitting CNDs (b-CNDs) and green-emitting CNDs (g-CNDs)) with tunable redox abilities and emission are synthesized via one-pot hydrothermal method.
