OBJECTIVE: To examine whether the use of social media can promote the selection of formal care services by disabled elderly and identifies the moderating effects of elderly digital competence and psychological expectations on this relationship. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Based on the modified Anderson model and consumer behaviour psychology, study employs China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) data from 2015, 2018 and 2020 to empirically examine the utilisation duration and mechanisms of formal care services for the disabled elderly.
