Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic, non-specific inflammatory sickness of the intestinal tract, chiefly implicating the rectum and colon, which is characterized by chronic or subacute diarrhea, mucopurulent stools, and abdominal pain. The pathogeny of UC is still uncertain, and it is thought that multiple factors interact to cause the disease, such as environment, genetics, gut microbes, and immunity.
