Based on introducing the 3rd general soil survey in Hunan province, the six classification units of soil taxonomy in Hunan province were expatiated, including Soil Order, Soil Great Group, Subgroup, Soil Family, Soil Species and Subspecies. Moreover, the general research situations of soil genetic classification and systematic classification in Hunan province from 1965 to now were summarized.
