英语的名词动用现象是词类转化中最活跃的现象之一，而自然现象名词的名动化却很少被关注。本文基于认知语言学的语法转喻理论来分析自然现象名词转用动词的动因，其表义生动、形象、诙谐幽默，同时也为此类词汇的习得和英汉互译提供一些启示。
