In this work, we describe a flocculation performance evaluation of a novel anionic polyacrylamide (APAM) synthesized using low dose γ-ray initiation. The APAM structure and morphology were characterized using Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. In comparison to commercially purchased APAM (Mw = 1.0 ×10<sup>7</sup>), γ-ray initiation was demonstrated to be a more effective method to increase molecular weight, decrease the residual acrylamide monomer, and improve thermal stability. Flocculant performance was evaluated by assessing their ability to remove Cd(II) from water. We utilized the Plackett-Burman (PB), steepest ascent, and response surface methodology (RSM) experimental design to identify the optimal flocculating conditions for the removal of soluble Cd(II). Under optimal conditions [26.84 mg L<sup>−1</sup> CaO, 71.28 mg L<sup>−1</sup> polyaluminium chloride (PAC) and 2.87 mg L<sup>−1</sup> APAM], the maximum percent removal of Cd(II) was observed to reach 93.65%. A potential flocculation mechanism for the Cd(II) removal from water was further studied by evaluating the colloid Zeta potential. Results from these studies demonstrated that PAC had a greater capability to change the Zeta potential of collide under alkaline conditions, while APAM played a critical role in the bridging, enmeshment, and sweeping effect. The composite of two types of predominance makes considerable sense in regards to enhancing flocculating efficiency, decreasing secondary pollution, and reducing flocculant cost.<br/> ©2018

摘要:
Functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) as new-generation adsorbents have been widely used in environmental problems treatment processes due to their unique physical and chemical properties. MNPs has excellent efficiency towards the elimination of pesticides, antibiotics as well as toxic metals in agricultural wastewater because various specific functional groups anchoring the surface of magnetic nanoparticles, which can efficiently remove contaminants. Herein, this work aims to: (i) summarized the literatures about the sorption of pesticides, antibiotic and toxic metals; (ii) discussed the sorption mechanism and influence factors; (iii) pointed out prospective research necessities and challenges on the adsorption of agricultural wastewater pollutants by MNPs. To make feasibility of MNPs at large scale application, more efforts should be made to afford the relevant research in this field.

With the development of the degradation of persistent organic pollutants in the wastewater, antibiotics have been considered as emerging pollutants. Their lasting effects on the entire ecosystems directly resulted in irreversible damage all over the world. Electro-Fenton, photo-Fenton, photoelectro-Fenton and solar photoelectro-Fenton processes have been adopted to the elimination of antibiotics for the considerable efficiency. The mechanism, advantage, disadvantage, and the impacts of key parameters for each method are discussed based on the recent works, respectively. The cost aspects of electro-Fenton and photo-Fenton are analyzed for practical application. The degradation pathway as well as the toxicity evaluation of the antibiotics is reviewed. Finally, research needs and unfilled gaps have been proposed, including blocks from unpredicted impurities, pilot-scale study for the remediation of polluted water, pretreatment of antibiotic effluent, cognition of high-performance electrode, and characterization of intermediates. All of them suggested that electro-Fenton and photo-Fenton could be adopted as an ecological and efficiency ways for the elimination of antibiotics. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.

摘要:
Persulfate is the latest oxidant which is being used increasingly for the remediation of groundwater and soil contaminated with organic compounds. It is of great significant to offer readers a general summary about different methods of activating persulfate, mainly including heat-activated, metal ions-activated, UV-activated, and alkaline-activated. Meanwhile, in addition to persulfate concentration as an influencing factor for persulfate oxidation process, selected information like temperature, anions, cations, pH, and humic acid are presented and discussed. The last section focuses on the advantages of different activated persulfate processes, and the suggestions and research needs for persulfate-based advanced oxidation in the remediation of polluted groundwater and soil.

In this research, the abundance and structure of AOA amoA gene during agricultural waste composting were determined by quantitative PCR and sequencing techniques, respectively. Pairwise correlations between potential ammonia oxidation (PAO) rate, physicochemical parameters and the AOA abundance were evaluated using Pearson correlation coefficient. Relationships between these parameters, PAO rates and AOA community structure were evaluated by redundancy analysis. Results showed that 22 AOA gene OTUs were divided into the soil/sediment lineage by phylogenetic analyses. Significant positive correlations were obtained between AOA amoA gene abundance and moisture, ammonium, water soluble carbon (WSC) and organic matter (OM), respectively. Redundancy analysis showed OM, pH and nitrate significantly explained the AOA amoA gene structure. Pearson correlation revealed the PAO rate correlated positively to ammonium, AOA amoA gene abundance. These results indicated that AOA communities sense the fluctuations in surrounding environment, and ultimately react and influence the nitrogen transformation during agricultural waste composting. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

This study involved the synthesis of magnetic reduced graphene oxide (M-rGO) using a co-precipitation method and examined its resultant adsorption properties for mixtures containing silver ions and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The results indicate that M-rGO preferentially adsorbs silver ions in mixtures containing AgNPs, enabling the size characterization of smaller AgNPs (< 60 nm) at ultra-trace concentration levels to be more attainable. The sorbents after adsorption could be easily recovered through an external magnet. The AgNPs retained in solution were characterized using single-particle ICPMS (SP-ICPMS). The adsorption behavior of silver ions on M-rGO was well fitted with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model, with the conclusion that the adsorption of silver ions occurred primarily through the chemical bond effect and the heterogeneous surface of the sorbent. Finally, the application of M-rGO with the approach developed herein to actual environmental water samples was successful. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Highly effective, economical, and replicable ways of Cd-polluted paddy field remediation (in situ) are urgently needed. In this work, a yearlong field experiment (both early and late rice) was conducted to investigate the effects of red mud based passivator [red mud, diatomite, and lime (5:3:2)] on remediation of an acidic Cd-polluted paddy field in Hunan Province. Compared with the control, the addition of red mud based passivator in the early and late rice reduced Cd concentration in each part of the rice plant (with the most significant decrease rate of 59.18% and 72.11% for brown rice in the early rice and late rice seasons respectively). The effect of Cd reduction in the rice plant was persistent in the next growing season. The addition of red mud based passivator also reduced the exchangeable fraction of Cd in the soil and converted the exchangeable fraction into other unavailable fractions. This study demonstrated that the pH in acidic soil increased after the application of red mud based passivator. Furthermore, red mud based passivator had no effect on the concentrations of Olsen-K, Alkaline-N, Olsen-P in the soil, but increased rice grain yield. Overall, the results of this study indicated that the red mud based passivator at 0.6 kg m<sup>−2</sup>could be a recommendation for Cd-polluted acidic paddy soil stabilization, and it would be a suitable method for remediation of Cd-polluted acidic paddy soil.<br/> ©2018 Elsevier B.V.

以改性有机肥为吸附剂吸附水中Cu(Ⅱ),探究了Cu(Ⅱ)初始浓度、吸附时间、吸附温度、吸附剂用量、转速和溶液初始pH值等因素的影响。结果表明,pH=5、温度30 ℃、转速150 r /min时,改性吸附剂吸附Cu(Ⅱ)在2 h达到吸附平衡;吸附剂用量为8 g /L时,吸附量最大;吸附过程符合准二级动力学方程,等温吸附曲线符合Langmuir方程,说明其吸附为单层吸附。

Japanese anchovy (Engraulis japonicus Temminck and Schlegel, 1846) is a keystone species in the food web of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea ecosystem. To study nutrient flow at intermediate and lower trophic levels, a controlled feeding experiment was carried out on a simplified food chain of the green alga Chlorella Beijerinck, 1890 – the calanoid copepod Calanus sinicus Brodsky, 1962 – E. japonicus. For the whole organism, bulk δ13C was found to be enriched with escalating trophic level, although the intertrophic gap in δ13C was slightly lower than the commonly reported 1.5‰ per increase in level. Furthermore, 15 amino acids (AAs) were detected in the studied organisms. Among them, the δ13C values of 12 AAs were determined and were found to exhibit diverse patterns of variation. The δ13C levels of essential AAs changed very little and were highly correlated across trophic levels, indicating that they underwent little trophic fractionation and were mainly ingested by the consumers from the proteins in their food. In contrast, the δ13C values of nonessential AAs differed greatly across trophic levels, indicating that the nonessential AAs in consumers were synthesized de novo from food proteins. The fractionation pattern of nonessential AAs may depend on the carbon pool and the AA composition of the organism at the lower trophic level. © 2018, Canadian Science Publishing. Chiral pharmaceuticals (CPs), including non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), β-blockers and some herbicide and pesticides, are widely used in aquaculture, clinical treatment and many other fields. However, people are increasingly concerned about such ubiquitous pollutants, which can frequently be detected in contaminated soil and water. In large part, the significant sources of chiral pharmaceuticals stem from industrial processes, such as the direct discharge of untreated or incompletely treated wastewaters containing chiral pharmaceuticals, incorrect storage and use, animal wastes and biosolids. The main ways for human exposure to chiral pharmaceuticals are the disease treatment process and chiral pharmaceuticals contaminants. According to the results of a series of toxic studies, some diseases, even cancers, may be associated with exposure to certain chiral pharmaceuticals. Therefore, the treatment of chiral pharmaceuticals has become an important issue. The current advanced remediation techniques for chiral pharmaceuticals include the conventional method (sorption and sonolysis), biotransformation (an aerobic granular sludge-sequencing batch reactor and constructed wetland system) and advanced oxidation processes (ozonation and photocatalysis). Herein, in this review, we summarize the current status and sources of chiral pharmaceuticals, potential effects on human health, as well as the superiority, disadvantages and prospects of current advanced remediation technologies. Moreover, we also anticipate the prospect of the future research needed for chiral pharmaceuticals pollutant remediation. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

A large number of researchers have applied biochar-based functional materials to the treatment of agricultural wastewater contamination. Meanwhile, biochar has also proved to be a very promising and effective technology in water purification field due to its various beneficial properties (e.g., cost effective, high specific surface area, and surface reactive groups). The focus of this review is to highlight the fabrication methods and application of biochar-based functional materials with the removal of different agricultural contaminants, and discuss the underlying mechanisms. However, the application of biochar-based functional materials is currently under its infancy, with the main hindrance is identified as the gap between laboratory scale and field application, immaturity of engineered biochar production technologies, and lack of quality standards. In order to fill these knowledge gaps, more efforts should be made to pay for the relevant research in future studies. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
Selenium (Se) contamination in surface and ground water in numerous river basins has become a critical problem worldwide in recent years. The exposure to Se, either direct consumption of Se or indirectly may be fatal to the human health because of its toxicity. The review begins with an introduction of Se chemistry, distribution and health threats, which are essential to the remediation techniques. Then, the review provides the recent and common removal techniques for Se, including reduction techniques, phytoremediation, bioremediation, coagulation-flocculation, electrocoagulation (EC), electrochemical methods, adsorption, coprecipitation, electrokinetics, membrance technology, and chemical precipitation. Removal techniques concentrate on the advantages, drawbacks and the recent achievements of each technique. The review also takes an overall consideration of experimental conditions, comparison criteria and economic aspects. © 2018 Elsevier Inc.

摘要:
In this work, P. chrysogenum strain F1-ferrihydrite composites (PFC) were applied to the bioremediation of polluted mimic wastewater with high concentration (50–500 mg/L) of arsenic. An interesting phenomenon was discovered that the PFC was formed in situ in the process of removal of As(III), which can greatly improve their practical application in separation and reutilization. The results showed that optimum removal efficiency achieved 81.23% for As(III) at an initial concentration of 100 mg/L that also could be up to 75.00% at 200 mg/L with composite sorbent PFC. According to the adsorption isotherms and kinetics experiments, the adsorption reaction included both physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. The formation of composite PFC significantly promoted the sorption of As(III) ion between biomass and ferrihydrite from aqueous. The adsorption rates and capacities for arsenic were both enhanced markedly than biomass and ferrihydrite individually as well. Adsorption-desorption experiment indicated PFC maintained to a dominant with 74.47% of removal efficiency over 3 cycles. This research demonstrated that PFC has great potential in removing high concentration of As(III) from wastewater. © 2018

摘要:
In this work, the mesoporous iron-aluminum (Fe-Al) bimetallic particles were synthesized and employed for the removal of As(III) from aqueous solution. The manufacturing method of Fe-Al bimetallic particles was optimized. Through exploring the proportion and the order added of Fe-Al components, conclusion can be got that the best molar ratio is nFe:nAl<inf>2</inf>O<inf>3</inf>= 1:0.2. The Fe-Al bimetallic particles were characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FTIR). The ability of removing As(III) from aqueous solution was investigated at different adsorption conditions (e.g., temperature, pH value, dosage and adsorption time). The absorption efficiency of the composite materials in alkaline solution was higher than that in the acidic solution. Furthermore, the As(III) removal mechanism was also investigated, indicated that the removal of As(III) is a complex process including surface adsorption, oxidation and co-precipitation. The relative good As(III) removal capability of the simple synthetic of Fe-Al bimetallic particles exhibited its great potential as an effective and environmental friendly agent for As(III) removal from water. ©2017 Elsevier B.V.

Red mud (RM) was used to remediate heavy metal-contaminated soils. Experiments with two different dosages of RM added to soils were carried out in this study. It was found that soil pH increased 0.3 and 0.5 unit with the dosage of 3 and 5% (wt%), respectively. At the dosage of 5%, the highest stabilization efficiencies for Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn reached 67.95, 64.21, 43.73 and 63.73%, respectively. The addition of RM obviously transferred Cd from the exchangeable fraction to the residual fraction. Meanwhile, in comparison with the control (no RM added), it reduced 24.38, 49.20, 19.42 and 8.89% of Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn in wheat grains at the RM addition dosage of 5%, respectively. At the same time, the yield of wheat grains increased 17.81 and 24.66% at the RM addition dosage of 3 and 5%, respectively. Finally, the addition of RM did not change the soil bacterial community. These results indicate that RM has a great potential in stabilizing heavy metals in calcareous agricultural soils. © 2018, Springer Science+Business Media B.V., part of Springer Nature.

摘要:
In this study, a combined aerobic–Fenton–anoxic/aerobic system was designed for the remediation of raw landfill leachate in a pilot-scale experiment. This system included (i) a granular sludge biological oxidation procedure that achieves the accumulation of nitrite nitrogen ((Formula presented.)) under aerobic conditions; (ii) a Fenton process that improves the biodegradability of the biotreated leachate and (iii) an activated sludge biological oxidation component under anoxic and aerobic conditions. Additionally, a shortcut nitrification and denitrification pathway was achieved. The effects of free ammonia, temperature and pH on nitrite accumulation were discussed. The change in the biochemical oxygen demand/chemical oxygen demand ratio of the effluent after shortcut nitrification was also analysed. The microbial community in the reactor were also investigated. The problem of the lack of carbon source in the denitrification process can be solved by the Fenton reagent method. Moreover, it was beneficial to achieving nitrogen removal as well as the more extensive removal of organic matter. The treatment strategy employed in this study exhibited good results and provided the potential practical application for treating landfill leachate. © 2017, © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

摘要:
合成了铁铝复合材料吸附剂,并比较了其与酸改活性炭、陶粒、类水滑石3种吸附材料对含砷废水中AS(Ⅲ)的去除效果。结果表明,铁铝复合材料对水中三价砷的吸附效果好于其它3种吸附材料,吸附率大于89%。铁铝复合材料对水中As(Ⅲ)的吸附符合Langmuir等温模型和Freundlich等温模型,吸附作用力既涉及离子交换和静电吸引,又涉及表面配位作用。

摘要:
Highly efficient simultaneous removal of Cu(II) and tetracycline (TET) from aqueous solution was accomplished by iron and zinc doped sawdust biochar (Fe/Zn-biochar). The mutual effects and inner mechanisms of their adsorption onto Fe/Zn-biochar were systematically investigated via sole and binary systems, sorption isotherm and adsorption kinetics models. The liquid-film diffusion step might be the rate-limiting step for tetracycline, the interaction of Cu(II) was more likely controlled by both intra particle diffusion model and liquid film diffusion model. The fitting of experimental data with kinetic models, Temkin model indicates that the adsorption process of tetracycline and Cu(II) involve chemisorption, and physico-chemical adsorption, respectively. There exists site competition and enhancement of Cu(II) and tetracycline on the sorption to Fe/Zn-biochar. The results of this study indicate that modification of biochar derived from sawdust shows great potential for simultaneous removal of Cu(II) and tetracycline from co-contaminated water. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
Red mud and compost are two inexpensive and effective materials available for the in situ treatment of soil contaminated with heavy metals. In order to investigate the specific process involved, a detailed analysis of the synergistic effects of combined red mud and compost was carried out. The efficiency of three different treatment systems, namely compost (C), red mud (R), and a mixture of compost and red mud (R + C), on the movability, ecological risk, and biological effective Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb over time of incubation in agricultural soil was evaluated. Results showed that the pH, water extractable organic carbon (WEOC) and total organic carbon (TOC) showed significant changes after addition of these amendment materials to the target soil. The combination of red mud and compost mixture as amendment material (R + C) resulted in the largest reduction in efficiency of the available heavy metals. In addition, the microbial biomass in the treated soil increased after addition of the amendment materials, highest increase was observed with R + C. The results indicate that these amendment materials, especially R + C could lower the ecological risk of heavy metals in soil. ©2017 Elsevier Ltd
