Manganese enhances the immobilization of trace cadmium from irrigation water in biological soil crust

摘要:
The effect of biological soil crust (BSC) in paddy field on the immobilization and removal of heavy metal from irrigation water is an important issue. BSC was cultured in solutions with different concentrations of manganese (Mn) salt and cadmium (Cd) sulfate for 15 days. We analyzed the Mn, Cd and Fe contents in the BSC and investigated the effects of Mn salt on the Cd distribution in different binding-forms in BSC as well. The results show that Mn salt was effective at enabling BSC to immobilize the Cd, and its removal efficiency from irrigation water improved with an increase in the Mn concentration used. The removal of 50.00 μg/L of Cd from irrigation water by BSC reached as high as 95.70% in present of 20.00 mg/L Mn. The highest obtained biological concentrated factor of BSC for Cd is ~2.7 × 104. The mainly Cd species (75%) in BSC is the non-EDTA extracted minerals. Based on the SEM-EDS and XPS analyses, it was reasonably inferred that the Mn ion was oxidized by Mn oxidizing bacteria (MOB), to yield the porous spongy-like birnessite with d-spacing of 2.31 Ǻ while Cd was scavenged and immobilized in the crystal lattice. The MOB was identified as Bacillus. This study provides a potentially novel method to decontaminate irrigation water polluted with Cd by using BSC in presence of Mn. © 2018 Elsevier Inc.

摘要:
Microcystis aeruginosa frequently forms cyanobacterial blooms in eutrophic water bodies, resulting in high concentrations of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in the water column. The effects of M. aeruginosa EPS (MA-EPS) on the adsorption behavior of Cu(II) onto kaolinite and the possible mechanisms were investigated in this study. The results of potentiometric titration and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy determination show that carboxyl, phosphoryl and amino/hydroxyl groups were the main adsorption groups on MA-EPS. The combination of EPS with kaolinite created new adsorption sites. MA-EPS increased the adsorption of Cu(II) by kaolinite mainly through complexation. The adsorption kinetics of Cu(II) by kaolinite or kaolinite + EPS composite (Kao + EPS) was well fitted by a pseudo-second order kinetic model. The adsorption isotherm analyses show that the incorporation of MA-EPS onto kaolinite increased its surface heterogeneity. Rather than intercalating into the kaolinite interlayers, MA-EPS and/or Cu(II) were adsorbed onto the surface of this clay. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
Microcystis aeruginosa has several morphological and physiological traits that frequently enable it to dominate in eutrophic waters. Sanguinarine is a promising algaecide of biological origin that shows strong inhibitory effects against M. aeruginosa. The effects of sanguinarine on the morphological and physiological characteristics that give M. aeruginosa an ecologically competitive advantage over other phytoplankton were investigated in this study. The results showed that sanguinarine could effectively inhibit the growth of M. aeruginosa. Sanguinarine did not affect buoyancy regulation in M. aeruginosa but did increase colony size. Examination of intracellular and extracellular microcystin showed that although its synthesis was inhibited by sanguinarine, it recovered after 5 days of exposure at concentrations of 10 to 40 μg l−1. Hormetic effects were observed for phycobiliprotein content and carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity under sanguinarine stress. Phosphorus (P) uptake by M. aeruginosa was inhibited by sanguinarine. The results presented in this study will help elucidate the ecological effects of sanguinarine when used to mitigate the effects of harmful cyanobacteria. © 2019, © 2019 International Phycological Society.

A co-precipitation method has been developed to prepare the Mg/Al layered double hydroxides (Mg/Al LDHs) and La-doped Mg/Al LDHs (Mg/Al/La LDHs). The products of calcined Mg/Al LDHs (Mg/Al LDOs) and Mg/Al/La LDOs are obtained by further calcination at 450 degrees C for 24 h. Characteristics of the materials are evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Adsorption behaviors of Mg/Al LDOs and Mg/Al/La LDOs have been contrastively investigated for arsenic and fluoride. Results show that doping La3+ into Mg/Al LDOs can modify its surface and structure, resulting in enhanced adsorption capacity of anions. A pseudo-second order kinetic model describes the adsorption kinetics of As(V) and F- on the Mg/Al/La LDOs, implying the mechanism of chemisorption. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models are used to fit adsorption data and the maximum uptake amount of As(V) and F- are calculated as 87.30 and 62.33 mg/g, respectively. Adsorption of As(V) and F- are also investigated as a function of initial concentrations, contact time, and media pH. The influence of co-existing anions indicate that the adsorption percentage of As(V) decreased in the order Cl- approximate to SO42- > NO3- > CO32- > HPO42-, and that of F- decreased in the order NO3- approximate to Cl- > SO42- > HPO42- > CO32-. It is found that Mg/Al/La LDOs keep the sorption efficiencies over 5 cycles. These results demonstrate that the Mg/Al/La LDOs can be employed as a low-cost and efficient adsorbent for treatment of undesirable anions.

为了解在不同浓度的锰盐作用下生物土壤结皮对稻田灌溉水中镉的固定作用及机制,将不同浓度的硫酸锰、镉溶液与稻田生物土壤结皮混合,并在实验室内培养15 d.通过分析生物土壤结皮中不同形态的锰、镉的量,探究不同浓度锰盐对土壤结皮中镉的固定及分布的影响.结果表明:锰盐能有效地促进生物土壤结皮固定镉,随着锰盐浓度的增加,生物土壤结皮对镉的去除效率增加.在20.00 mg·L~(-1)硫酸锰条件下,生物土壤结皮对水中镉离子去除率达到98.20%,镉主要以非乙二胺四乙酸可提取的矿物形态存在.通过扫描电子显微镜-电子散射能谱及X射线光电子能谱分析,锰被锰氧化菌氧化成类似水钠锰矿的多孔海绵状物质,镉富集固定在晶格中.本研究对利用生物土壤结皮净化镉污染灌溉水提供了新的思路.

In order to mitigate As accumulation in rice, amendments such as iron ore tailing (FeT) and manganese ore tailing (MnT) were employed in As contaminated soil. Before experiment, the toxicities of both amendments were assessed with Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) and horizontal vibration method (HVM), respectively. The ranges of contents of As were 0.13-1.54 mg kg(-1) in husk samples, and 0.06-0.42 mg kg(-1) in brown rice, respectively. Among both amendments treatment, the lowest concentrations of As in rice grain were found by MnT treatment due to its structure and composition. There was significantly negative relation (p < 0.05) between Mn and As, while significantly positive relationship between Fe and As, and ratio of Fe/Mn and As in rice plant (p < 0.05).

摘要:
This study focused on the heavy metal concentrations in the soil and their representative input and output fluxes to paddy fields in four types of contaminated areas in Changzhutan urban agglomerations, Hunan, China. Four types of contaminated areas (mining area, livestock breeding area, suburb area and control area) were chosen for monitoring. Three input pathways and three output pathways were considered so as to figure out the heavy metal balance throughout the topsoil. In all study areas, the input fluxes of atmospheric deposition, accounting for 51.21%–94.74% of the total input fluxes, were significantly higher than those of fertilizer and irrigation water. Nevertheless, the manure fertilizer contributes nearly the same proportion as atmospheric deposition in livestock breeding area. In suburb area, only the flux of atmospheric deposition was higher than that in control area, and other input fluxes showed no significant difference. Crop removal, especially straw removal, was the primary output pathway of soil elements, contributing 60.19%–89.37% of the total output fluxes. Annual balance demonstrated that Cd was the metal of the primary concern in study areas. Furthermore, obvious differences were observed among the distribution of heavy metals (Cd, Pb and As) fractions in four types of contaminated areas. In general, the available content was the primary portion of the total contents, mostly up to about 51.70%–87.76%. The information obtained in this paper provides a more comprehensive understanding of the differences in the net inputs of heavy metals among four types of contaminated areas and emphasizes the significance of straw removal for Hunan agricultural soil.<br/> ©2018 Elsevier B.V.

Quantum chemical descriptors and empirical parameters are two different types of chemical parameters that play the fundamental roles in chemical reactivity and model development. However, previous studies have lacked detail regarding the relationship between quantum chemical descriptors and empirical constants. We selected polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) as an object to investigate the intrinsic correlation between 16 quantum chemical descriptors and Hammett constants. The results exhibited extremely high linearity for Sigma sigma(+)(o,m,p) with Q(xx/yy/zz), alpha and E-HOMO based on the meta-position grouping. Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) congeners, as two independent compounds, validated the reliability of the relationship. The meta-substituent grouping method between Sigma sigma(+)(o,m,p) and alpha was successfully used to predict the rate constant (k) for (OH)-O-center dot oxidation of PCBs, as well as the octanol/water partition coefficient (logK(OW)) and aqueous solubility (-logS(W)) of PCDDs, and exhibited excellent agreement with experimental measurements. Revealing the intrinsic correlation underlying the empirical constant and quantum chemical descriptors can develop simpler and higher efficient model application in predicting the environmental behavior and chemical properties of compounds.

The adsorption capacity of calcium alginate (Ca-alginate) beads was evaluated by measuring the removal of three organic compounds with different charges (malachite green, p-chlophenol and methyl orange). The diffusion was investigated in Ca-alginate hydrogel as a function of solute charge. It was found that an increased electrostatic attraction between the hydrogel and solute would improve the mobility of solute and hence enhance its adsorption efficiency. The degradation kinetics of charged pollutants by Ca-alginate with NZVI entrapped (NZVI-alginate) beads was compared to that of bare NZVI and the data followed a pseudo-first-order kinetic model. Negatively charged Ca-alginate hydrogel strongly adsorbed positively charged pollutant, which led to an enhancement in degradation rate. However, the degradation efficiency of neutral and negatively charged pollutants by NZVI-alginate was comparable with that by bare NZVI. Thus, the degradation ability of NZVI-alginate was related with the diffusion and adsorption behavior of solutes in Ca-alginate hydrogel. The experimental results showed that the free calcium ions containing in Ca-alginate had a significant impact on the adsorption and degradation behaviors of positively charged pollutant, but those of neutral and negatively charged pollutants were only moderately affected. With the dispersity of NZVI particles in beads (1:1–1:4, w/w) increasing, the degradation efficiency of malachite green was improved, whereas further increase of NZVI dispersity (1:6, w/w) brought about a depressed degradation. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.

摘要:
稻田系统对灌溉水中悬浮态镉的吸附是农田灌溉水中重金属净化的主要过程.从稻田结皮中采集水网藻,研究其对不同粒径高岭土载镉悬浊液的去除动力学过程,并结合重金属的分布形态分析,探讨结皮对不同粒径悬浮态镉的去除机制.结果显示:水网藻对离子态镉的富集作用强于胶体态镉,而对胶体态镉的富集量与胶体的粒径呈负相关.可见,进入水体中悬浮物与重金属结合后,能降低其被藻类俘获概率,增加其迁移能力,导致其污染距离增加.

摘要:
Due to the widespread application of white-rot fungi for the treatment of pollutants, it's crucial to exploit the special effects of pollutants on the microbes. Here, we studied the effects of cadmium on calcium homeostasis in the most studied white-rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium. The response of P. chrysosporium to cadmium stress is concentration-dependent. A high concentration of cadmium caused the release of calcium from P. chrysosporium, while a hormesis effect was observed at a lower cadmium concentration (10 μM), which resulted in a significant increase in calcium uptake and reversed the decrease in cell viability. Calcium (50 μM) promoted cell viability (127.2% of control), which reflects that calcium can protect P. chrysosporium from environmental stress. Real-time changes in the Ca 2+ and Cd 2+ fluxes of P. chrysosporium were quantified using the noninvasive microtest technique. Ca 2+ influx decreased significantly under cadmium exposure, and the Ca 2+ channel was involved in Ca 2+ and Cd 2+ influx. The cadmium and/or calcium uptake results coupled with the real-time Ca 2+ and Cd 2+ influxes microscale signatures can enhance our knowledge of the homeostasis of P. chrysosporium with respect to cadmium stress, which may provide useful information for improving the bioremediation process. © 2018 Elsevier Inc.

蓝藻水华爆发会产生大量的胞外聚合物(Extracellular polymeric substances),这种胞外聚合物(EPS)对铜在高岭土-水界面的迁移转换有着未知的影响,本论文研究了蓝藻胞外聚合物在高岭土-水界面对铜的吸附行为和机制,实验结果表明:蓝藻胞外聚合物与高岭土结合而成的复合物比纯高岭土吸附效果更好;高岭土吸附过程符合Langmuir模型,高岭土与EPS的复合物等温吸附结果则更加符合Freundlich模型;高岭土的吸附过程是放热过程,但是加入胞外聚合物之后变为吸热过程;通过物理吸附、离子交换、络合作用三种解吸实验的结果表明了高岭土中加入胞外聚合物后对铜的吸附效果增强.

摘要:
Novel g-C3N4/Cu3B2O6 hybrid photocatalysts were successfully synthesized by a liquid chemisorption and thermal post-treatment method. The as-synthesized samples were extensively characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis DRS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), photoluminescence (PL) and photocurrent. The photocatalytic performances of the g-C3N4/Cu3B2O6 composites were evaluated by degrading methylene blue (MB) using H2O2 as an oxidant under visible-light irradiation. It was found that 60% g-C3N4/Cu3B2O6 sample exhibited optimal kinetic constant of 0.0474min−1, which was 3.16 and 2.14 times higher than that of g-C3N4 and Cu3B2O6, respectively. This enhancement was mainly attributed to the elevated separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs with the integration g-C3N4 and Cu3B2O6, resulting in the enhanced activity of activating H2O2 to decolorize MB under visible-light. The radical trapping experiments demonstrated that h+, e− and ·OH were responsible for MB photodegradation. Furthermore, an underlying mechanism of the g-C3N4/Cu3B2O6+H2O2+vis photocatalytic system was proposed. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.

Being that the influence of organic ligands on contaminant removal by nanoscale zero valent iron (nZVI) has been explored in quite a few studies, there is little information on reaction mechanisms of the ZVI-ligand system under different aeration conditions. The degradation of nitrobenzene (NB) by nZVI-oxalic acids (OA) was investigated under N2, O2 and without aeration conditions. From the findings, it was evident that OA dramatically improved NB degradation by nZVI with all of the aeration conditions. Approximately 100% of NB was degraded by nZVI-OA+N2 system after 60 min of reaction, followed in effectiveness by nZVI-OA+ without aeration (95%) as well as nZVI-OA+O2 (85%). Operation parameters including OA concentration and pH had significant effect on the removal of NB in the nZVI-OA system. 3mM OA concentration and pH 3.0 were found to be favourable. The Fe2+, total dissolved iron concentrations, pH and ORP values in the nZVI-OA systems had also been monitored. Intermediates and trapping experiments showed that reduction played a fundamental role in the NB degradation by nZVI-OA under N2 or without aeration conditions. The formation of Fe(OA)0 and Fe(OA)22− complexes had lower standard ORP, which could improve the strength of reductant in the systems, and thus resulting in an increased degradation efficiency of NB by nZVI-OA+N2. Under O2 aeration condition, the NB degradation process could be regarded as an oxidation. In the meantime, OA promoted the production of reactive oxidants species by speeding up the oxidation rates of Fe2+ by O2 and H2O2. Summarily, the improved reactivity of nZVI was largely as a result of the strong complexation ability of OA. © 2017

Manganese (IV) oxide (MnO2) nano-sheets were synthesized using tetramethylamine, H2O2, and MnCl2·4H2O and used in suspension for removal of methylene blue (MB). Up to 95% removal was achieved for MB concentrations less than 500mg/L. The adsorption data fitted better with the Freundlich isotherm model than the Langmuir model, indicating a heterogeneous adsorption of MB on MnO2nano-sheets. The maximum adsorption capacity of MnO2nano-sheets was approximately 4300mg/g, which is the highest yet reported. Suspensions of MnO2nano-sheets aggregated as precipitates after adsorption of MB. Using a suite of analyses, including X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the high adsorption capacity was mainly attributed to ion exchange, coordination, and a fishing-net effect. The term, ‘fishing-net effect,’ is proposed here for the first time, to explain the extremely high adsorption capacity of nano-sheets, which increased with increasing ionic strength and sorbate concentration. Our results demonstrate that dispersive MnO2nano-sheets have a potential application in adsorption of organics from strongly basic solutions with high salinity. © 2016, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Discharge of livestock effluents and poor management of livestock manures are important reasons for the eutrophication of water bodies. Dissolved organic matter (DOM) originated from livestock manure is ubiquitous in water, but the effects of such DOM and the organic substances on the growth and cyanotoxins synthesis of bloom-forming cyanobacteria are still unknown. In order to elucidate these issues, the growth, microcystins synthesis, and cell viability of Microcystis aeruginosa exposed to cattle manure originated DOM (CM-DOM) were investigated in this study. The results indicated that the growth of M. aeruginosa FACHB905 was slightly improved by CM-DOM at a concentration of 90 mg l<sup>−1</sup>(TOC). CM-DOM slightly decreased the electron transfer efficiency of photosystem II (PS II) of M. aeruginosa FACHB905. The synthesis and secretion of microcystins were promoted by CM-DOM. The cell viability (TTC test) increased in response to CM-DOM addition. Results presented in this study suggested that CM-DOM may increase the ecological and public health risks of M. aeruginosa when poor management of livestock manure is anticipated. ©2017 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
Agricultural soils can be contaminated by industrial activities such as mining and smelting. Contamination with cadmium (Cd) can significantly exceed average background values, which can lead to uptake by rice plant and even harm to humans through food chain. In Hunan province, southern China, rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the main cereal, and human exposure to metallic contaminants through rice pathway is of particular interest. Shortage of land for rice growing means that contaminated agricultural soil is still cultivated for rice in Hunan. In the present work, a field experiment was undertaken to remediate Cd-contaminated paddy soil with three mineral amendments, namely sepiolite, bone char, and a silicon-based product (normally used as fertilizer). Average Cd concentration in the paddy soil was 2.85 mg/kg, significantly exceeding Chinese soil quality standards of China. Cd content was 0.59 mg/kg in sepiolite, 0.28 mg/kg in bone char, and 0.44 mg/kg in silicon fertilizer, respectively. Distribution fractions of Cd in soil followed the order of exchangeable (FI) > organic matter-bound (FIII) > residual (FIV) > oxide-bound (FII) without treatment, while exchangeable (FI) > residual (FIV) > organic matter-bound (FIII) > oxide-bound (FII) after treatment. With addition of three amendments, soil pH values and rice growth such as plant height and ripening rate increased. Concentrations of Cd in the rice plant (straw, husk, and unpolished rice) decreased after treatment. However, among three amendments, only the bone char addition reduced Cd accumulation in the rice plant below the Chinese standard value (0.2 mg/kg) and in the husk to below the Chinese feed hygiene standard for food (0.5 mg/kg). © Copyright 2017, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. 2017.

提高大学生的动手能力、分析问题和解决问题的能力,培养学生创新意识和科学素养是当今大学生实验课程教学的主要目的。传统实验教学模式虽然能提高学生的动手能力和实验操作技能,但是却忽视了学生的主观能动性,扼杀了学生的创新意识。针对这些问题,我们在多年实践教学改革的基础上提出了弹性实验教学模式。该实验教学模式将实验教学内容和学生的学习兴趣有机结合起来,充分调动了学生的主观能动性,引导学生围绕着实验教学目标自主完成实验题目的凝练、实验方案的撰写及独立完成探索性实验,从而达到提高学生的创新意识和综合素质。

摘要:
通过从四个典型南方稻田环境采集灌溉水,土壤和生物结皮。筛选出镉污染程度最轻的生物土壤结皮并对其进行表征分析以及去除水体中镉的性能研究,表明生物土壤结皮为生物组分和土壤矿质元素的复合体,具有大量表面官能团。性能研究表明吸附容量与平衡浓度基本呈线性关系,最大吸附容量为8.481 mg/g;对水溶液中镉的最大去除率为99.79%。对镉吸附最适pH值为7且去除率达87.03%。在含高钙环境下对镉具有选择性吸收特征,同时对于平均分子量数量级低于107的络合态镉亦有较好的去除效果。生物结皮对去除水体中的镉具有潜在价值。

摘要:
随着我国经济快速发展,南方酸性土壤重金属Cd污染严重,开发具有抗酸性高效选择吸附重金属Cd的保水剂材料具有重要意义.MoS42-离子具有高度选择性和高效固定重金属的能力,本文利用共聚合成的方法,将四硫代钼酸根离子负载在保水剂丙烯酰胺-丙烯酸钠(PP)中形成新型LDHS-PP.并详细研究了不同负载比例材料在不同pH、时间、吸附容量、抗盐离子干扰等因素对镉吸附效果的影响.结果显示,MoS4-LDH添加量为1%的保水剂对重金属镉的抗酸性及吸附容量最好,可以作为固定酸性耕地中镉的保水剂.
