Purpose: The multidimensional effects of farmland transfer in China have been profoundly unstudied. The purpose of this paper is to provide insights on the effects of the intermediary role of agricultural total factor productivity (TFP) of farmland transfer on agricultural economic growth in China. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the agricultural data of 30 provinces in China over the period 2005–2018, this paper uses the intermediary effect model to test the relationship between farmland transfer, agricultural TFP and agricultural economic growth. This paper employed an intermediary effect test model to investigate the intermediary role of agricultural TFP in the influence of farmland transfer on agricultural economic growth. Findings: The findings indicated that farmland transfer has a significant effect on promoting agricultural economic growth. There is a significant “inverted U-shaped” relationship between farmland transfer and agricultural TFP. The sample value of 84.3% of farmland transfers in China is still within the TFP promoting effect range. In addition, farmland transfer has an indirect impact on agricultural economic growth through the channel of agricultural TFP. Agricultural TFP plays a significant intermediary role, but the effect is relatively low Originality/value: This paper is the first to provide fundamental evidence on the impact of farmland transfers on agricultural economic growth in China, driven by agricultural TFP as an intermediary factor. Agricultural TFP can reduce the involution effect of farmland transfer and promote an indirect effect on agricultural economic growth. © 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Farmland scale management (FSM) is an essential strategy to establish an appropriate management scale for agricultural production, enhance smallholder farmer production efficiency, and improve the utilization rate of farmland. The Chinese government promotes farmland transfer as a tool to establish modern and moderate-scale agriculture. However, farmers remain unable to afford agricultural services and inputs required for appropriate FSM after farmland is transferred-in. This paper aims to examine the impact of agricultural socialized services (ASSs) on the FSM behavior of smallholder farmers through farmland transfer. A theoretical framework for the farmer household production aspect of this relationship is developed. A weighted least squares (WLS) model is applied to empirically examine smallholder farmers’ decisions to expand the scale of farmland induced by the promotion of ASSs based on data collected from 741 households in 2020 in the rice-growing region of southern China. The findings reveal that ASSs have a positive and significant impact on small farmers’ FSM. Small farmers’ behavior regarding farmland transfer is affected positively by the promotion of ASSs. The increase of ASSs encourages small farmers to transfer-in more farmland. However, the impact of ASSs on various steps of agricultural practice varied according to the FSM of smallholder farmers. Our findings imply that the government should take the development of ASSs as one of the main methods for promoting the establishment of moderate and large-scale agriculture and rural revitalization. Strengthening policies and financial support for both private and public ASS providers through financial innovation subsidies and preferential tax policies will help smallholder farmers reduce input costs and increase the scale of production and profits. The findings of this paper will provide a scientific basis and reference for the development of moderate-scale agriculture and rural revitalization. © 2021 by the authors. Achieving carbon neutrality in agricultural production is a common challenge faced by agricultural development around the world. If China’s agriculture sector intends to achieve the “dual carbon” goal, the focus should be on the agricultural carbon emission of smallholder farmers and their organized production. This study discusses the impact of smallholder structure and organized production on carbon emission, and the interaction mechanism. To describe the causal relationship and mechanism, the structural degree of smallholder farmers and the total carbon emission in the regions were measured, the provincial panel data were constructed, and then the fixed-effects model and intermediary mechanism test were used for empirical analysis. The results show that in the current stage of agricultural development, the high proportion of smallholders in the region will lead to more agricultural carbon emissions. Although organized production services can reduce carbon emissions, the structure of smallholders will inhibit the scale of the organization, thus hindering carbon emission reduction. It is stated that inhibition is the intermediary path for carbon emissions. This study suggests that the government should improve policies to guide smallholders to operate on an appropriate scale, strengthen policies to encourage smallholders to use socialized agricultural production services, and support smallholders in developing highly valuable ecological agriculture. 摘要:
Since the reform and opening-up in 1978, a remarkable achievement has been made in poverty reduction in China. Many previous studies have analyzed the poverty reduction effects of economic growth, fiscal expenditure, education levels, information technology, urbanization, foreign trade, industrial development and other factors. As a bridge between production and consumption, the agricultural products circulation industry has an important role on the income growth of rural residents. However, the construction level of China’s agricultural products circulation infrastructure lags behind, resulting in a decline in the efficiency and quality of agricultural products supply, and farmers are also facing the embarrassing situation of increasing production without increasing income. Therefore, in this study, we selected the China’s provincial panel data from 2003 to 2017 to analyze the effect of agricultural products distribution infrastructure in narrowing the income gap between urban and rural residents and poverty reduction in China. First, we review the extant literature and elaborate the poverty reduction path of agricultural products circulation industry; secondly, we build models step by step and select nine variables; lastly, we carry out regression analysis on the overall poverty reduction effect of China’s agricultural products circulation industry, the poverty reduction effect of internal factors of agricultural products circulation industry and regional spatial heterogeneity with Stata software. Our results showed that the development level of the agricultural products circulation industry and the degree of opening-up have significant positive effects on narrowing the income gap between urban and rural residents and poverty reduction varied, with different regions in China. Among all the internal factors of development of agricultural products circulation industry in poverty reduction, the core explanatory variable is the investment in agricultural products circulation infrastructure with the largest poverty reduction effect, followed by the human capital, informatization level and number of employees of the agricultural products circulation industry, and the poverty reduction effects of the four internal development factors have had significant regional differences in China. Our findings further complement the internal mechanism of agricultural product circulation infrastructure on poverty reduction in China, suggest that we should apply appropriate strategies and give priority to the internal development factor of the agricultural product circulation industry, with the largest poverty reduction effect according to local conditions in different regions, and so be better able to achieve the targeted poverty alleviation and offer insights for the rural poverty reduction in other countries, especially in the developing countries. © 2022 by the authors.

Deviating from the environmental regulations at the regional level, this study focuses the research sample on Chinese A-share polluting companies and uses the ordinary least squares model and the seemingly unrelated regression model to test whether the existing corporate-level environmental regulations promote the development of green finance. The findings suggest that environmental regulations positively affect green finance through short-term or long-term external financing. This result is valid even after the robustness test of the change regression model and the measurement of the change key variables. Further heterogeneity analyses showed that the effect of environmental regulations is more significant in eastern China, manufacturing enterprises, and non-state-owned enterprises; conversely, environmental regulations are ineffective in central and western China and state-owned enterprises. The financing required to engage in polluting projects is binding; it cannot promote green finance. The impact of environmental regulations on green finance is weakened by the "greenwashing" situation, in which non-manufacturing enterprises are defrauding green fund providers. This study will help policymakers improve environmental regulations and establish a multi-party supervision and review mechanism for the green financial system.(c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Although titanium (Ti)-based nanomaterials (NMs) were traditionally considered as biologically inert materials, it was recently reported that Ti-based NMs induce adverse vascular effects by inhibiting Kruppel-like factor 2 (KLF2) and/or KLF4, vasoprotective KLFs with well-documented regulatory activity in NO signaling. However, the potential roles of other KLFs are not clear. KLF6 was recently identified as an important KLF involved in regulating endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, and angiogenesis, therefore, this study investigated the influence of titanate nanofibers (TiNFs) on KLF6-mediated events. Ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) showed that TiNFs altered the expression of a panel of KLF6-related genes: KLF6-mediated gene ontology (GO) terms were altered, categories including cytokine-mediated signaling pathways, transcription factor (TF) functions and membrane-bound organelles. Additionally, RT-PCR confirmed that TiNFs increased KLF6 activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3), a TF involved in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and ELISA confirmed the increase of soluble monocyte chemotactic protein 1 (sMCP-1), a KLF6-related inflammatory cytokine. Interestingly, the activation of klf6, atf3 and C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (ccl2; mcp-1 encoding gene) was observed in aortas of mice following one-time intravenous injection but not intratracheal instillation of TiNFs (100 μg per mouse), indicating a need for direct contact with NMs to activate klf6-mediated pathways in vivo. In endothelial cells, KLF6 knockdown inhibited the expression of ATF3 but not CCL2, suggesting the regulatory role of KLF6 in ATF3 expression. Overall, this study uncovered a previously unknown role of KLF6 in TiNF-induced vascular effects both in vitro and in vivo.

Exploiting the quasi-natural experiment of the social insurance collection system reform implemented in China in 2000, based on data from China's industrial enterprise database from 1998 to 2006, we use the difference-in-differences method to test the impact of changing the social insurance collection institution on corporate tax evasion. We find that changing the social insurance collection institution from the social security department to the local tax department significantly deters corporate tax evasion. A series of robustness tests also support this conclusion. The reason is changing the social insurance collection institution to the local tax department increases its' social insurance information of the enterprise, and reduces the information asymmetry between the enterprise and the collection institution. Furthermore, we find that the impact of changing the social insurance collection institution on corporate tax evasion is more evident in the samples of labor-intensive enterprises, low labor cost enterprises, and enterprises under the jurisdiction of the local tax department. These results indicate that government institutional reform is a valid way to reduce the information asymmetry between the government and enterprises, which will finally deter corporate tax evasion.

In response to the dilemma between economic development and environmental protection, green finance is an effective tool for environmental regulation. Based on the stochastic frontier analysis method to measure the energy efficiency of China’s provinces from 2001 to 2017, the promotion effect of green finance on energy efficiency and the intermediary effect of green technology innovation are tested and analyzed in our study. The results show that green finance can significantly improve energy efficiency. Specifically, green finance makes stronger effect on energy efficiency in provinces with rich resource endowments, high levels of economic development, and high degree of marketization. Green finance can improve energy efficiency through the development of new energy technologies and disruptive green innovation, which provides important supports for formulating policies to optimize energy structure and improve energy efficiency. © Copyright © 2021 Peng and Zheng.

Oil price forecasting is one of the most challenging issues since it is noisy, non-stationary, and chaotic. In this paper, we design a Bayesian Nonlinear Quantile method consisting of a Threshold Improved model and an Adaptive MCMC model to improve predicting performance. Specifically, the threshold improve model is introduced to solve the problems caused by the completely asymmetric distribution, and the Adaptive MCMC model is used to get the optimal threshold. Besides, the two-stage framework is applied to improve traditional methods' performance, including the Indirect GARCH model and Asymmetric Slope model. The experimental results show that our approach provides a promising alternative to oil price prediction, and the framework also improve the performance of the traditional methods. The contribution of this paper is to improve the accuracy of the oil price forecasting model, and the framework applies to other energy prices as well. (C) 2021 THE AUTHORS. Over-exploitation of groundwater in China has severely affected irrigation agriculture, especially in the North China Plain, and it also threatens the environment. Although water-saving technologies (WSTs) have been introduced for decades, sustained commitment to WST is not being met. This paper investigates factors affecting adoption and sustained adoption of WST based on 261 households in the North China Plain. We employ Heckman’s two-stage sample selection process: (1) households decide whether to adopt WST or not and (2) households decide whether to sustainably adopt (adopt for a long time) WST or not. Particular attention is paid to the role of water scarcity in the initial adoption and sustained adoption stages. Several indicators relating to water scarcity are used to calculate a water scarcity index based on principal component analysis. The results showed that water scarcity exerts a significant and positive effect on both adoption and sustained adoption of WST. Non-adopters and non-sustained adopters face less severe water scarcity than adopters. Membership in cooperative organizations significantly improves the likelihood of sustained adoption; 63.6% of sustained adopters have a membership in cooperative organizations, compared with 18.2% of non-sustained adopters. The number of plots negatively affects the sustained adoption of WST; sustained adopters on average have 3.0 plots, and non-sustained adopters have 5.3 plots. Education, extension service, farm size, off-farm work, relatives working in the local government and irrigation costs are positively and significantly associated with adoption and sustained adoption decisions. Finally, we find that labor-saving capacity significantly influences both stages, whereas capital-saving capacity is only significant in the adoption stage. Only 10% of non-adopters consider adoption of WST as more labor- and capital-saving than conventional irrigation practices, in comparison with nearly 50% of adopters. These results imply that the extension of WST should consider focusing more on cooperative organizations and hold more demonstrations for farmers. Moreover, given that the degree of water shortage varies from region to region, the WST extension standards should vary accordingly. Governments should strengthen awareness by enhancing education and publicity concerning water scarcity and conservation. © 2020, Springer Nature B.V.

In response to the uncertainty of extreme climate change, energy consumption structure has been actively adjusted globally. Based on panel data of 101 countries or regions from 2006 to 2019, a panel data model with fixed effects is used to analyze the heterogeneous impacts of extreme climate risks on global consumption transition. The results show that extreme climate change has promoted the transition of the energy structure, reduced the consumption of fossil energy, and increased the consumption of renewable energy. Meanwhile, there are heterogeneous impacts of extreme climate change risks on the energy transition when different countries suffering from extreme weather conditions. Areas with high levels of economic development and coastal countries are more inclined to respond to climate change through energy transition. It is further confirmed that, under the impact of business cycle and oil price fluctuations, economic recession and falling oil prices will strengthen the correlation between climate risk and the global energy transition, and governments need to pay more attention to the impact of climate risks. © 2021 by the authors. Purpose: This paper analysed survey data of 715 rice-producing households in China to assess the determinants of adoption of five mutually exclusive soil conservation practices (SCPs) and their impact on rice yield and chemical fertiliser use. Design/methodology/approach: The multinomial endogenous treatment effects model was used to account for selection bias and endogeneity arising from both observed and unobserved heterogeneity. Findings: Farms that adopted SCPs as a package experienced an increase in rice yield and decrease in chemical fertiliser use. Adoption of SCPs as a package led to a 12.0% increase in yield and 15.2% decrease in chemical fertiliser use; these results have policy implications for the non-point source pollution control in the agricultural sector. In contrast, adoption of straw retention only significantly reduced yield by 4.9% and increased chemical fertiliser use by 18.1%. Originality/value: The authors evaluate and compare multi-type of SCPs, such as straw retention, deep tillage and use of organic fertiliser, separately or in combination, and their impacts on smallholder farmers’ rice yield and chemical fertiliser usage. © 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited.

The big data technology framework has been successfully used in the Internet of Things, and the financial industry also hopes to use the advanced technology of big data to integrate and improve internal and external data related to credit risks. Relying on more efficient machine learning algorithms to get a reasonable prediction of credit risk can reduce the self-generated losses of the Internet of Things finance and increase profits. This article uses distributed search engine technology to customize web crawlers to obtain the required bank card and transaction data from the multi-source heterogeneous data of the Internet of Things financial industry, design the corresponding Spark parallel algorithm to preprocess the data, and establish an inverted table and two Level index file provides data source for big data analysis platform. After the data source is determined, the Mutually Exclusive Collectively Exhaustive (MECE) analysis method is combined with the scores of many financial business experts in the industry to obtain a set of candidate indicators and quantification methods for the financial credit risk evaluation of the Internet of Things, and analyze the correlation of indicators and risk grading. The random forest algorithm in the big data machine learning library is used to select the feature of the candidate index set, and a multi-level spatial association rule algorithm based on the Hash structure is designed to mine the financial risk information of the Internet of Things, and build a credit risk assessment and intelligent early warning model. This paper selects 26 indicators of Internet of Things finance as the research objects, uses SPSS26.0 software to perform sample Kaiser- Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test and Bartlett sphere test on the original data, and describes the results of factor analysis in detail. The particle swarm algorithm is introduced into the parameter optimization of random forest, and the financial credit risk assessment model of the Internet of Things is established. The results show that this method can significantly reduce the probability of banks making the first and second error rates when evaluating the credit risk of financing the Internet of Things Finance. This is conducive to the smooth development of the Internet of Things financial business for banks, which enables banks to enhance their own profitability while effectively reducing losses due to incorrect credit provision. 摘要:
Abstract The aim of the “One Belt and One Road” (OBOR) project proposed by China is to encourage extension of global value chains, facilitateregional integration and increase efficient resource allocation. In recent times, scientific literature has examined the investment decisions of the OBOR investment and how it will affect the governmental policies, environmental initiatives, and bilateral flow of economic resources. Current study, based on Web of Science database, uses bibliometric methodology to map the research trends in OBOR publications. We contribute in the economic literature in the associated fields of OBOR publications in the following ways: (1) identify the most influential researchers, articles, and academic institutions, (2) mapping the interdisciplinary character of OBOR investments and its bibliometric similarity to adjacent fields, (3) visualize nature and trends of the research field, and (4) synthesizing future research areas. Although OBOR initiative has received considerable traction, but to this date, there is no bibliometric study on this topic. The findings of current study will help policymakers and academics to navigate the OBOR literature, provide a systematic basis for developing the field, and suggest promising future research avenues. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Batch-processing machines (BPMs) can process a number of jobs at a time, which can be found in many industrial systems. This article considers a single BPM scheduling problem with unequal release times and job sizes. The goal is to assign jobs into batches without breaking the machine capacity constraint and then sort the batches to minimize the makespan. A self-adaptive differential evolution algorithm is developed for addressing the problem. In our proposed algorithm, mutation operators are adaptively chosen based on their historical performances. Also, control parameter values are adaptively determined based on their historical performances. Our proposed algorithm is compared to CPLEX, existing metaheuristics for this problem and conventional differential evolution algorithms through comprehensive experiments. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed self-adaptive algorithm is more effective than other algorithms for this scheduling problem.

This paper examines the dynamic relationship between crude oil prices and the U.S. exchange rate within the structural break detection context. Based on monthly data from January 1996 to April 2019, this paper identifies structural breaks in movements of oil price and examines the dynamic relationship between crude oil prices and the U.S. exchange rate movement by introducing the economic policy uncertainty and using the TVP-VAR (Time-Varying Parameter-Vector Auto Regression) model. Empirical results indicate that shocks to crude oil prices have immediate and short-term impacts on movements in the exchange rate which are emphasized during the confidence intervals of structural breaks. Oil price shocks and economic policy uncertainty are interrelated and influence movements in the U.S. exchange rate. Since the U.S. dollar is the main currency of the international oil market and the U.S. has become a major exporter of crude oil, the transmission of price shocks to the U.S. exchange rate becomes complicated. In most cases, the relationship between oil prices and the U.S. exchange rate movements is negative. © 2020 by the authors.

This paper proposes a novel hybrid forecast model to forecast crude oil price on considering the long memory, asymmetric, heavy-tail distribution, nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics of crude oil price. First, we use a signal de-noising method to reduce excessive noise significantly in the crude oil price. Then we employ empirical mode decomposition to transform the de-noised price into different intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). Finally, some complex long memory GARCH-M models are used to forecast different IMFs and a residual. Empirical results show that the proposed hybrid forecasting model WPD-EMD-ARMA-FIGARCH-M achieves significant effect during periods of extreme incidents. The robustness test shows that this hybrid model is superior to traditional models. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

摘要:
The uncertainty in the evolution of crude oil price fluctuation has a significant impact on economic stability. Based on the decomposition of crude oil price fluctuation by the state-space model, this paper studies the fluctuation trend of crude oil prices and its causes. The nonlinearity autoregressive distribute lag approach (NARDL) model is used to capture the influence mechanism characteristics of crude oil prices at different positions and different fluctuation trends. An event study model with dummy variables is constructed to compare the effects of different types of events on crude oil price fluctuations. The empirical results indicate that the fluctuation of crude oil prices tends to strengthen on the whole, and there is a remarkable correlation between this trend and the influencing mechanism of crude oil price, namely, the fluctuation source structure. The influence mechanism of crude oil price fluctuation is asymmetric when the crude oil price is at different positions and under different trends. There is a strong correlation between event shocks and event types in the evolution of crude oil price fluctuation. © 2020 by the authors.

With the development of Internet technology, especially the application of mobile Internet technology in people's daily lives, people's lifestyles and production methods have changed, and they have brought huge economic benefits to society. In order to improve the development quality of agricultural e-commerce and expand the integration model of e-commerce, the paper analyzes the development and changes of Internet technology in the agricultural industry chain from the source to operation, production, service, security, and sales and studies the production experience model iterative upgrade. At the same time, a blockchain-based agricultural product traceability system is proposed. The system has a good supervision effect. Once recorded on the blockchain ledger, all data cannot be changed, which plays a very good traceability role for agricultural e-commerce. Actual cases show that the integrated model of agricultural e-commerce based on blockchain technology can bring huge development potential to the e-commerce industry and can improve the security and traceability of agricultural e-commerce. © 2020 Xiaochun Li and Dan Huang.

Research on manufacturing scheduling has historically emphasized production efficiency. With rising environmental consciousness, manufacturing companies are paying increasing attention to energy efficiency on the shop floor. Manufacturing consumes a large amount of electricity globally. The mismatch between electric supply and demand has been a huge problem, which even becomes worse when renewable energy becomes more popular. The time-of-use (TOU) pricing policy is a widely used demand response (DR) approach, trying to align demand to supply. This paper considers energy-efficient scheduling of a single batch processing machine with non-identical job sizes and release times under a TOU electric tariff so as to simultaneously minimize total electricity cost, a criterion of environmental and energy sustainability, and makespan, a criterion of productivity. A mathematical formulation is developed to optimize electricity cost and makespan. Due to computational complexity, a hybrid multi-objective meta-heuristic algorithm is developed to find the Pareto front. Two constructive heuristics are presented to group jobs into batches. Two different approaches are presented to improve total electricity costs. The performance of the proposed model and algorithms is evaluated through extensive numerical experiments. Production managers can use the model and algorithms provided in this work to make a trade-off between productivity and sustainability. © 2020
