This study was conducted to test the hypothesis that the dietary glutamine supplementation had various effects on oedema disease induced by Escherichia coli (E. coli). Total of 162 KunMing mice were randomly assigned to glutamine group 1 (1.0% glutamine+basal diet, n = 45), glutamine group 2 (1.0% glutamine+basal diet, n = 45), control group 1 (1.22 % alanine+basal diet, n = 36) and control group 2 (1.22% alanine+basal diet, n = 36). After 3 days of adaptive feeding and a 7-days treatment period with the experiment feed, all mice were challenged by intraperitioneal injection of E. coli O-19 at LD50 (2.53 x 10(8) CFU/ml). The mortality, after twenty hours of injection was calculated from glutamine group 2 and control group 2. Serum concentrations of platelet-activating factor (PAF), interleukin (IL)-2, interleukin (IL)-10, secretory, immunoglobulin A (sIgA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, cyclic 3',5'-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic 3',5'-guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) were measured in glutamine group 1 and control group 1 in a ten-hours interval for three times. Serum concentrations of PAF in 1.0% glutamine group were significantly lower (P<0.01) than that in 1.22% alanine group at ten and thirty hours after initial injection and lower (P<0.05) than the control group twenty hours after first injection. Additionally, the supplementation of glutamine increased the SOD activity significantly (P<0.05) in the first twenty hours after initial injection. However, the SOD activity in the glutamine group was lower (P<0.05) than in the control group later. Furthermore serum concentration of cAMP had no difference at the first ten hours alter injection, whereas the cAMP concentrations in the glutamine group was significantly lower P<0.01) at twenty hours after initial injection and lower (P<0.05) than in the control group thirty hours after first injection. Meanwhile, glutamine supplementation had little effect on the mortality of mice, serum IL-2, sIgA and cGMP. In conclusion, dietary glutamine supplementation could partially attenuate the damage caused by oedema disease, but had little effect on the clinical result.

The exact solution to geodesic equation in the braneworld black hole spacetime is found by method of Jacobian elliptic function, and the angle of perihelion precession is obtained by the zero point of Jacobian elliptic function for Mercury. Comparing numerical result with observation data, we give the value range of tidal charge.

The paper proposes several mathematical models of the multidirectional associative memory (MAM) neural network by analyzing its structure. A model of MAM with distributed delays is studied. Under some new assumptions on activation functions,

invariant subsets of MAM are constructed. Then the existence and the exponential stability of

periodic solutions located on invariant subsets are obtained by constructing a suitable Liapunov function and a Poincaré mapping. An estimating method of the exponential convergence rate is given. The obtained results are new to MAM neural networks. An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the results.

To establish the regeneration system of axillary buds from Triarrhena lutarioriparia var. lutarioriparia, several induction media with different plant growth regulators concentrations were orthogonally designed to induce callus. The results showed that KT and 6-BA were the key factors to the induction and differentiation of callus of axillary buds, and calli were found to emerge after 7-10 d. The callus induction frequency (CIF) and callus differentiation frequency (CDF) were 42% and 85%.The highest number of seedlings per callus was regenerated after the third subculture, the lowest number of seedlings per callus after the fourth subculture.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome is an important infectious disease of pigs and has a significant harmful effect on the livestock industry, especially in China. PRRSV ORF1b gene encodes primary proteins which play a vital role during PRRSV replication. In this paper, various 12-amino-acid peptides were displayed. These peptides could bind to the polymerase and helicase of PRRSV ORF1b protein, respectively, in which p9 exerted the highest antiviral activity with an IC50 of 56 mu M, and the minimum toxicity to cells. It was proved that p9 inhibited PRRSV replication in infected MARC-145 cells in a dose-dependent manner, and the amino acid sequence of HRILMRIR was important for antiviral activity of p9. Also, p9 could bind to the cell membrane and penetrated into cells. These result suggested that p9 might be a potential therapeutic drug for PRRSV infection. In this paper, some sufficient conditions for the existence and multiplicity of periodic and subharmonic solutions to second order p-Laplacian difference equations are obtained by using the critical point theory. The proof is based on the Linking theorem in combination with variational technique.

Taking WKB approximation to solve the scalar field equation in the Schwarzschild black hole spacetime, we can get the classical momenta. Substituting the classical momenta into state density equation corrected by the modified dispersion relation, we will obtain the number of quantum states with energy less than ω. Then, it is used to calculate the statistical-mechanical entropy of the scalar field in the Schwarzschild black hole spacetime. By taking exact method, we obtained the leader term of entropy which is proportional to the event horizon area and correction terms take the forms of ln A, A

By using the critical point theory, the existence of periodic solutions to second order nonlinear p-Laplacian difference equations is obtained. The main approach used is a variational technique and the saddle point theorem. The problem is to solve the existence of periodic solutions of second order nonlinear p-Laplacian difference equations.

Solving the integral for r exactly, we obtain the leading term of entropy that is proportional to the event horizon area, and correction terms take the form of A−1, but the logarithmic correction term by this approach is not given.

Task scheduling is an essential aspect of parallel process system. This NP-hard problem assumes fully connected homogeneous processors and ignores contention on the communication links. However, as arbitrary processor network (APN), communication contention has a strong influence on the execution time of a parallel application. This paper investigates the incorporation of contention awareness into task scheduling. The innovation is the idea of dynamically scheduling edges to links, for which we use the earliest finish communication time search algorithm based on shortest-path search method. The other novel idea proposed in this paper is scheduling priority based on recursive rank computation on heterogeneous arbitrary processor network. In the end, to reduce time complexity of algorithm, a parallel algorithm is proposed and speedup O(PPE) is achieved. The comparison study, based on both randomly generated graphs and the graphs of some real applications, shows that our scheduling algorithm significantly surpasses classic and static communication contention awareness algorithm, especially for high data transmission rate parallel application.

The Duffing equation with even-odd asymmetrical nonlinear-restoring force and one external forcing is investigated. The conditions of existence of primary resonance, second-order, third-order subharmonics, morder subharmonics and chaos are given by using the second-averaging method, the Melnikov method and bifurcation theory. Numerical simulations including bifurcation diagram, bifurcation surfaces and phase portraits show the consistence with the theoretical analysis. The numerical results also exhibit new dynamical behaviors including onset of chaos, chaos suddenly disappearing to periodic orbit, cascades of inverse period-doubling bifurcations, period-doubling bifurcation, symmetry period-doubling bifurcations of period-3 orbit, symmetrybreaking of periodic orbits, interleaving occurrence of chaotic behaviors and period-one orbit, a great abundance of periodic windows in transient chaotic regions with interior crises and boundary crisis and varied chaotic attractors. Our results show that many dynamical behaviors are strictly departure from the behaviors of the Duffing equation with odd-nonlinear restoring force.
